Rahul Gandhi was born to Rajiv and Sonia Gandhi on 19th June, 1970.  Ever since he was a child, he has always demonstrated cool and down to earth demeanour that has been a hallmark of his political life as well, since he entered public life in 2004 as the Member of Parliament for Amethi in India's national assembly.

Rahul Gandhi has taken a lot of lessons from his family on how to conduct himself in politics, his political ideology and philosophy, as well as the role he sees for women in India. His father, Rajiv, was a politician who was drawn to helping the youth and women of India, and this is something that Rahul has also picked upon, drawing mass support from the youth of India to run his campaigns. He depends on and trusts his mother and sister completely, and his respect for women can be seen in his recent vow to ensure that at least fifty percent of the representation in AICC goes to women in the upcoming elections.

He also retains the desire and will to protect the rights of the downtrodden in India, which has been a hallmark of his family.  This is reflected by his support for the farmers who had received inadequate compensation for their land taken over by the government for a highway project. It is this vision for youth and women receiving their adequate share in politics that has helped him promote transparency and accountability in the Congress Party.

Rahul Gandhi has clearly learnt the art of political mobilisation, grassroot campaigns, as well as the need to grab the imagination of the youth in order to clinch political power. This has helped his party, the Indian National Congress, to revive its fortunes in Uttar Pradesh as well as nationwide. As the man in charge of the Indian Youth Congress and the National Students Union of India, he has well-depicted his leadership capabilities as a good politician.

It is clear, however, that Rahul has a lot to do if he is to play a more pivotal role in Indian politics. Rahul Gandhi is a name that needs no introduction. He comes from a lineage of the great Indian leaders. That’s why even at a simple age, it was all too simple to predict what would become of the young boy. As here the apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree.

During this period, he and his sister managed their mother re-election campaign. It was such a success as she won with a very wide majority of more than 400000 votes. This goes to show that though new in active politics, his skills are already horned. He promised the people that he would champion agendas to reduce the tensions of religion and caste in India. Rahul Gandhi's Education

As the saying goes, education is the key to success. Many world renowned leaders are known to have gone through the rigorous process of attaining education. Rahul Gandhi is not an exception. Despite his young life filled with political misgivings of his close family relatives, Rahul went through this very similar education journey and proved to be a mark of excellence. Rahul Gandhi's educational journey started at Modern School in New Delhi, India, where he grew up under the political limelight of his grandmother, Indira Gandhi, who served as a Prime Minister. Here he went through the early stages of education that provided a steady foundation for his later years in education.

After attending Modern School in New Delhi, Rahul Gandhi briefly joined St. Columbia School in New Delhi. He later enrolled to Doon School from 1981 to 1983. Here, he continued with the early stages of his education. This was however not to be sustained for as long as 3 years into his education at Doon school, his grandmother, who was then the Prime Minister of India, was assassinated. Uncertainty and insecurity rocked Rahul's family and in this regard urgent measure had to be taken. This had a great impact and imbalance on Rahul Gandhi's tender education years and as a direct result, had to be homeschooled. This he did with his younger sister, Priyanka Gandhi. The political tension at the time did not allow Rahul and his family to be under the public eye.

Rahul Gandhi had great athletic ability in the sport of rifle shooting. His love for sports secured him a place in tertiary education. This paved way to his admission into St. Stephen's College from 1989 to 1990. Here he began his undergraduate studies.

After his first year examinations at St. Stephens College, Rahul later proceeded to the prestigious Harvard University in the United States where he enrolled for an undergraduate program. This however took a strange twist when barely a year after, his father, Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated. Rahul Gandhi's university education at Harvard University therefore lasted 1 year.

From there, Rahul Gandhi's options were limited and far between. He was admitted to Rollins College in Florida in 1991, where he graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. His father's political assassination would bring with it certain consequences, one being his changing his name to Raul Vinci to conceal his identity. Only few university officials and security agencies knew his true identity.

Rahul Gandhi's education did not stop there. In 1994, he joined Trinity College, Cambridge, where he graduated the following year with a Master's of Philosophy (M.Phil) degree in Developmental studies.

The education of Rahul Gandhi has seen with it many challenges. It is evident however, that Rahul is a good example of a pillar of excellence in education. He is a great inspiration to many education scholars and a mentor to those who can identify with him.
